Three teenage girls have been injured after a stolen car they were travelling in crashed into a house in Marsden, south of Brisbane, overnight.
Police say the red Hyundai Accent hatchback was stolen from Everton Park in Brisbane’s north around 11:30am on Saturday. About 1am, the vehicle rolled through several properties along Chambers Flat Road before slamming into a two-storey home.
Residents rushed to help the injured teenagers, with one man suffering cuts to his feet from broken glass while assisting at the scene. He said he was shocked by the extent of the damage caused after the car “ripped through everything” before hitting the house.
Another local resident said he heard the girls screaming for help when he arrived and found one of them unconscious in the back seat. He said he urged them to stay and wait for emergency services despite their pleas not to call an ambulance.
The speed limit in the area is 60km/h, with police believing the car may have been travelling at nearly double that speed at the time of the crash. No charges have been laid so far.
A 14-year-old girl from Logan Central was taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital with serious head injuries. A 14-year-old from Waterford West, believed to have been driving, and a 15-year-old from Waterford were also taken to hospital with minor injuries and are in stable condition.
Police say investigations are continuing.
