Woman arrested two fugitives sought after dramatic Sydney police chase

A woman has been charged and two other suspects remain on the run after a police pursuit through Sydney’s Inner West early on Friday morning.

Police attempted to stop a white Audi S5 on New Canterbury Road in Petersham shortly after 5.30am after the vehicle was allegedly linked to a break-and-enter at a home on Spencer Street in Summer Hill moments earlier.

Homeowner Natalie McLaren told 9News her family was awakened by unusual activity around 5.11am.

“I heard my husband making some commotion early this morning,”

McLaren said. “He and my daughter were searching around the house for keys. He told me they believed someone was in the backyard again.”

The Audi allegedly fled from police, with the pursuit continuing through the M8 tunnel before ending in Lawrence Lane, Alexandria, at about 6am.

Three occupants abandoned the vehicle, which had reportedly lost a front tyre during the chase. Officers arrested a 29-year-old woman who was seated in the rear of the car, while two men escaped and remain outstanding.

Police said one of the fleeing suspects was seen climbing across the roofs of several nearby homes. A large-scale search was launched in the area, but the men have not yet been located.

The woman was taken to Mascot Police Station and charged over the alleged vehicle theft. She is due to appear in court later today.

Investigations are continuing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
