President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will not attend his son Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding celebrations in the Bahamas this weekend, citing government responsibilities.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he had hoped to attend but felt his duties required him to remain in Washington, D.C. “While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and his soon-to-be wife Bettina, circumstances related to government and my commitment to the United States do not allow me to do so,” Trump wrote. “I feel it is important for me to remain at the White House during this important period. Congratulations to Don and Bettina.”
Donald Trump Jr., 48, officially married Bettina Anderson, 39, on Thursday in Palm Beach County, Florida, while a private wedding celebration is scheduled to take place on a Bahamas island.
According to reports, the event is expected to remain small, with around 50 guests.
Trump had earlier suggested he was still considering attending, but noted that international issues, including concerns related to Iran, were affecting his schedule.
The president also cancelled a planned weekend visit to one of his New Jersey golf clubs in order to stay in Washington.
Meanwhile, Trump attended a campaign event in New York for Republican Congressman Mike Lawler, where he criticized Democrats and discussed a range of political issues during his speech.
