Sydney police on high alert after gang figure shot dead in Vietnam

Sydney police are on heightened alert amid concerns of possible revenge attacks following the fatal shooting of a senior gangland figure in Vietnam.

Lorenzo Lemalu, 24, a member of the Coconut Cartel, was shot dead outside a restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City. Lemalu had reportedly become a senior figure within the group after distancing himself from a gang associated with Sydney’s Alameddine crime family.

Authorities believe the ongoing struggle for control of the drug trade has contributed to escalating violence linked to Sydney’s criminal underworld.

Police are now investigating whether the Vietnam shooting is connected to the continuing gang feud in Sydney.

Reports indicate that a second gang member was also shot during the incident.

Images from the scene show men lying on the restaurant floor covered in blood following the attack.

Police in Vietnam’s Tay Ninh province have released the names and photographs of two Australian men they wish to question as part of the investigation.
