The Australia India Foundation (AIF) has opened organisational registrations and invited expressions of interest for cultural performances for the proposed “Melbourne Meets Modi” community reception, as preparations gather pace for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s expected visit to Australia in July 2026.
In a message shared with community organisations, AIF invited groups to participate through organisational representation, community mobilisation and partnership support.
The invitation described the expected visit as a significant occasion for the Indian-Australian community, stating that Prime Minister Modi is anticipated to visit Melbourne in the first half of July 2026.
Organisations interested in becoming Welcome Partners have been asked to register by 31 May 2026, while expressions of interest for cultural performances at the community reception are also open.
According to organisers, AIF plans to host a community reception in honour of Modi during his proposed Australia visit, with support from Welcome Partner organisations and local volunteers. Additional details about the event are expected to be announced soon.
A dedicated event website indicates that organisations and individuals will have several opportunities to participate, including attendance, volunteering and event involvement. Registration for Welcome Partners and cultural performance submissions is currently open, while media accreditation details will be announced later.
Successful Welcome Partner organisations will receive early registration access for their members. Eligibility is limited to not-for-profit organisations, with AIF retaining the right to review and approve applications.
Partner organisations are expected to support community participation, encourage inclusive representation across different demographics and ensure active engagement in the event.
The expected visit comes amid strengthening Australia–India relations across areas such as trade, education, defence, technology and people-to-people connections.
If confirmed, the Melbourne reception could become one of the largest Indian-Australian community gatherings since Modi’s major diaspora events in Sydney in 2014 and 2023.
AIF has also organised an information session regarding the organisation registration process:
Venue: Consulate General of India Office, St Kilda Road
Date: Tuesday, 26 May 2026
Time: 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Community organisations interested in participating have until 31 May 2026 to submit applications and cultural performance expressions of interest.
