Professor Terence Jeyaretnam has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours List, recognising his outstanding contribution to social justice, environmental conservation, and sustainability.

The Melbourne-based sustainability expert is among 948 Australians honoured this year, with the announcement made by Governor-General Sam Mostyn.

Professor Jeyaretnam has worked for more than 25 years in sustainability, climate change, and environmental governance, advising governments, businesses, and international organisations on sustainable development and responsible corporate practices.

He previously founded Net Balance, a leading Australian sustainability consultancy, which was later acquired by EY in 2014. He has also held senior roles across global advisory and sustainability initiatives.

Beyond his professional career, he serves as Chair of Amnesty International Australia and Global Citizen Australia, and sits on the boards of the Australian Conservation Foundation and other environmental organisations.

He has contributed to the development of sustainability reporting standards and policy frameworks in Australia and internationally, including work connected to the International Financial Reporting Standards Foundation.

A trained environmental engineer and Fellow of Engineers Australia, he has been widely recognised for his leadership in sustainability and advocacy for ethical and responsible business practices.

He will receive his insignia at an investiture ceremony at Government House in Victoria in the coming months.
