Former world champion cyclist Rohan Dennis has allegedly been caught driving despite being disqualified from holding a driver’s licence following the 2023 crash that resulted in the death of his wife, fellow Olympian Melissa Hoskins.
Police reportedly stopped the 36-year-old in an Adelaide street on Thursday after allegedly seeing him driving with two children in the vehicle.
Dennis was sentenced last year after pleading guilty to driving recklessly in the lead-up to the crash that claimed Hoskins’ life. He received a suspended jail term of one year, four months and 28 days, and was banned from driving for five years.
Hoskins, 32, died after being struck by a vehicle driven by Dennis during the incident.
Earlier this year, Dennis also drew criticism over a social media post in which he shared a photo of a black car and described it as “an absolute weapon.”
Following the latest incident, police reported Dennis for allegedly driving while disqualified and impounded his Volkswagen for 28 days.
The alleged breach could carry additional consequences due to his existing suspended sentence. Dennis is expected to appear in court at a later date, which is yet to be confirmed.
