Actress Anne Schedeen, best known for playing Kate Tanner in the popular 1980s sitcom ALF, has died at the age of 77.
Her family announced the news through a statement posted on her official Facebook page, saying she passed away peacefully.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share Annie has passed peacefully,” the statement read. “She leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of creative energy, sharp wit, love for her family, affection for little dogs, passion for thrift shopping, and a deep appreciation for storytelling.”
Schedeen is survived by her husband of 55 years, Christopher Barrett, and their daughter, Taylor.
Her family described her as a powerful presence whose absence will be deeply felt. “It is unimaginable to think about life without her,” they wrote. “But as she said, ‘I’m always with you.’ And she’s right.”
The tribute highlighted the many ways her creativity will live on, including through her artwork, handmade jewellery, sculptures, costumes, paintings, and the cherished memories she created with loved ones.
“Raise a margarita in her honour,” the family added. “We all love you, Annie.”
Her agent, Tom Markley, also confirmed her death. No cause of death has been disclosed.
Fans paid tribute to the beloved actress following the announcement.
One admirer recalled how Schedeen’s portrayal of Kate Tanner brought comfort to their family during difficult times, praising her kindness and warmth. Another wrote, “There goes part of our 80s childhood.”
Born in Oregon, Schedeen appeared in all 101 episodes of ALF, which aired from 1986 to 1990. The hit sitcom followed a wisecracking alien who crash-landed in the garage of a suburban California family and eventually became part of their household.
She starred alongside Andrea Elson, Max Wright, who died in 2019 at age 75, and Benji Gregory, who died in 2024 at age 46.
Before achieving fame on ALF, Schedeen appeared in television series including Paper Dolls, Emergency! and Simon & Simon.
She will be remembered for her memorable performances, creativity, and the lasting impact she made on audiences around the world.
