Two young children have died after a car struck a pram near a busy highway in Sydney’s south-west on Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Joseph and Gilbert Streets in Cabramatta, near the Cumberland Highway, at about 3:15pm following reports of a serious crash.
Police said the two children, both under the age of five, were in a pram when they were hit by a vehicle.
The children were rushed to Westmead Hospital in critical condition but sadly died a short time later.
A 33-year-old woman, believed to be known to the children, sustained minor injuries in the incident.
The 56-year-old driver of the vehicle was not injured and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
All southbound lanes of the Cumberland Highway remain closed as investigations continue, with authorities urging motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
