A 40-year-old Indian national wanted in Germany for attempted murder has been arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in California after authorities discovered he had entered the United States illegally from Mexico.
According to ICE San Francisco, Sandeep Singh was taken into custody in Fairfield, California, and is currently being held in ICE detention while immigration proceedings are underway.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, ICE San Francisco said: “ICE San Francisco arrested illegal alien Sandeep Singh, 40, of India, in Fairfield, CA. Singh illegally entered the U.S. from Mexico in 2023. Singh is wanted in Germany for attempted murder. He is in ICE custody pending immigration proceedings.”
Authorities said Singh unlawfully crossed into the United States from Mexico in 2023. His arrest followed an investigation by ICE officers, who identified him as the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by German authorities.
While ICE confirmed that Singh is wanted in Germany on charges related to attempted murder, officials have not disclosed details about the alleged offence, the circumstances of the case, or when the warrant was issued.
Singh will remain in ICE custody as immigration proceedings continue. The outcome of those proceedings will determine whether he is deported from the United States and potentially handed over to German authorities.
The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by U.S. immigration officials to identify and detain foreign nationals who are wanted for serious crimes or are considered threats to public safety.
ICE routinely cooperates with international law enforcement agencies and foreign governments to locate fugitives and facilitate deportation or extradition proceedings when appropriate.
No additional information about Singh’s immigration case or the German investigation has been released.
