Dr Vilaseri Tuicolo appointed Fiji’s Honorary Consul to Queensland

Fiji has strengthened its presence in Australia with the appointment of Dr Vilaseri Tuicolo as the country’s new Honorary Consul to Queensland.

Fiji’s Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, officially commissioned Dr Tuicolo during a ceremony this week, highlighting the importance of the role in promoting Fiji’s interests and supporting the Fijian community abroad.

Prime Minister Rabuka said the position of Honorary Consul requires strong leadership, integrity and a commitment to public service. He praised Dr Tuicolo’s extensive career in healthcare and his longstanding contribution to the Fijian community in Queensland.

“Dr Tuicolo has earned the respect of both Fijian and Australian communities through his work in healthcare, community development and support for the Fijian diaspora,” Rabuka said.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that Dr Tuicolo would strengthen Fiji’s diplomatic, economic and community ties with Australia, particularly in Queensland, which is home to a large Fijian population.

He also acknowledged the support of Dr Tuicolo’s family, noting that public service is often made possible through the encouragement and sacrifices of loved ones.

Accepting the appointment, Dr Tuicolo said he was honoured by the trust placed in him by the Fijian Government and pledged to strengthen connections between Fiji and Queensland.

He said he would focus on promoting trade and investment opportunities, encouraging community engagement and fostering cooperation across sectors including healthcare, education and business.

Dr Tuicolo’s appointment comes as Fiji and Australia continue to expand collaboration in areas such as trade, education, healthcare, labour mobility, security and regional development, with Queensland playing a key role in those growing ties.
