A man accused of stabbing his cousin before crashing a car into his sister’s home and attacking her with a knife in Melbourne’s south-east remains at large, prompting a major police search.
Police allege the violent series of incidents began at about 7.30am on Sunday in Epping, where a 40-year-old man was stabbed at a share house. The victim, believed to be the suspect’s cousin, was taken to hospital with injuries.
Authorities said the suspect then travelled about 50 kilometres to Dandenong North, where a silver Honda CR-V was allegedly driven deliberately into a house at around 10.15am.
A woman in her 30s, believed to be the suspect’s sister, was allegedly stabbed during the incident and was taken to Dandenong Hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators found a large knife on a nearby nature strip, while blood was visible on the side of the crashed vehicle. The suspect’s mother, who reportedly witnessed the attack, was comforted by neighbours at the scene.
Police said the man fled on foot after the Dandenong North incident, triggering a large-scale search involving the Dog Squad and Air Wing.
“We don’t know if the offender is armed in any way, but we are treating that person as potentially armed and exercising caution,” Inspector Graham Higginbotham said.
The suspect is described as being of African appearance and was last seen wearing a brown shirt and black pants.
Police continue to search for the man and have urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact authorities immediately.
